System Administrator
Emery Telecommunications & Video has a full-time position open for a System Administrator with a Linux focus. The standard hours for this position are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some after-hours and weekend work will be required. This person will perform networking and business system support functions including installation, configuration, and maintenance of equipment and software used to provide information services to Emery Telcom customers and employees. This candidate will need to report to the needed office Emery Telcom’s serving area. This will enable the candidate to perform the necessary hands-on work on equipment and infrastructure.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
- Perform administration of Linux and/or MS Windows servers including performing system updates and security patches, installing and configuring software, and troubleshooting applications such as DHCP, LDAP, TACACS+, DNS, and email.
- Perform system monitoring and troubleshooting of server operating systems and software applications including FTP, TFTP, Apache web server, DNS, DHCP, Zabbix, and other applications.
- Configure and maintain server firewall, antivirus, and related security controls.
- Manage and maintain server and data backups and recovery through tools such as Rubrik Data Protection, VMWare snapshots, etc.
- Write and maintain scripts and utilities used to perform and automate network tasks, file transfers, data exchange, and reports.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of network maps, diagrams, documentation, monitoring, alarming, and the security of the voice and IP networks and related applications.
- Provide basic support of internal billing and tracking systems including entry of new equipment and facilities for record keeping and deployment of services to customers.
- May be asked to assist in operation and maintenance of the telephone voice switches and ancillary services and equipment including software and configuration updates.
- May be asked to assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance of Fiber to the Home (FTTH) and other business or service provider equipment as needed.
- May be asked to assist with install and maintenance of central office infrastructure including equipment and cable racks and DC power.
- Provide support to the business sales and installation team for voice and data services including email, DHCP, and DNS applications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor degree in information systems/related field or equivalent experience with a focus on server and application administration is preferred.
- Experience with configuration and administration of Linux and/or Unix operating systems with a preference for Debian, CentOS/RHEL, SUSE, and/or Rocky Linux.
- Experience with VMWare or other hypervisors for management of server virtualization.
- Experience with Python scripting, SaltStack/SALT, or other Linux automation and administration tools is preferred.
- Experience with Palo Alto or other Next Generation Firewall appliances and software is preferred.
